Fear and Courage
Goliath stood in the valley for forty days and nobody moved. David arrived to deliver lunch, heard the challenge, and asked: who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God? He was the only person in the valley asking that question.
Purpose and Calling
Jesse brought seven sons before the prophet. Samuel looked at each one and heard the same word: not this one. The eighth was outside with the sheep. Nobody had thought to bring him in.
Leadership
Saul was everything a king was supposed to look like. That was the problem. 1 Samuel 8-15 is not about a man who started well and failed. It is about what was always there, waiting for the pressure that would reveal it.

Samuel heard his name and ran to Eli. Three times before he understood. The fourth time he stayed. What God said was not meant for Samuel. It was meant for Eli. And Samuel had to be the one to deliver it.

Hannah asked for a son with her whole body. When he was born she named him Asked-of-God and nursed him until he was weaned. Then she brought him to the temple and left him there. 1 Samuel is about what comes after that.
Relationship
Naomi told Ruth to go home. She had nothing to offer her. Ruth had no obligation to stay. What Ruth said on that road is not a sentiment. It is the definition of a word the Old Testament never fully translates.

The angel found Gideon hiding from the enemy and called him a mighty warrior. Gideon's response was not gratitude. It was argument. Judges 6 is about what happens when the commission finds someone who is genuinely not sure they are the right person.

Moses was a hundred and twenty years old, standing on a mountain he would die on, speaking to people he would never see arrive. Deuteronomy is not a law book. It is a farewell from someone who knows exactly what he is leaving behind.

The donkey stopped three times. Three times Balaam beat it for stopping. The donkey could see what Balaam could not. Numbers 22 is the oldest account ever written of the obstacle that is actually protection.

The command doesn't tell you how much to love your neighbor. It assumes you already know. The word "as yourself" is not a comparison. It is a measuring instrument built into the command itself.
